Round 4 of The Battle Trophy was played on Saturday. Those who played early had the worst of the weather with good Cornish Mizzle all morning. The afternoon brightened up to finish the day sunny and warm although not as warm as it was for Justin Rose who won Olympic Gold in Rio with a birdie on the 18th to beat Henrik Stenson.
Our winner on Saturday was John Williams. John won on countback from Matthew Warr. Both players hit a gross 81 off their 12 handicaps to finish with nett 69, John won on the back 9, leaving Matthew in 2nd place. Rob Cook finished 3rd on countback with nett 71 ahead of his fellow Bowood rival Josh Greenaway. Josh shot the lowest Gross score of the day with a round of 71.
In 5th place also with nett 71 was Richard Hawken. At the 8th Rich hit a 9 iron to just cleared the right hand of the 4 front bunkers and hit the slope which deflected it left across the green and into the hole for a hole in one! Richard Lawrence witnessed the whole thing from the next tee and continued on to finish with nett 71 just behind Spud in 6th place on countback.
John Arnold, Norman Evans and John Rowe all finished with nett 72 to take the last of the prizes in 7th, 8th and 9th respectively.
The Battle Series has 2 round still to play but with 4 scores to count the standing are shaping up now. Rob Cook is currently leading with 67 points from Josh Greenaway in 2nd on 65 points, Rich Hawken is in 3rd place. All 3 of them scored 18 points this week so it is a closely fought ‘battle’ at the top.
