The Church Course was open on Saturday after over a week of closures due to snow and frosted greens. The first Men’s competition was the Battle Trophy, an unforgiving medal and the first of a series of 6 rounds. The temperature was higher than it has been and the rain cleared off by 10.30.
Steve Buse came out fighting. He birdied the 6th, the 11th and the 13th to finish with a nett 70, 2 clear of the rest of the field and well under the competition standard scratch, reducing his handicap to 2. John Paul came 2nd with a nett 72. JP started with a birdie on the first, dropping just a couple of shots until his 7 on the 18th. Chris Jennings finished 3rd with nett 73, Chris is now cut to 8 hcp.
Richard Parsons and Jack Irwin finished 4th and 5th with nett 74 followed by Andy Griffiths, Marc Knight, James Hutchings, Joe Cruse and Keith Thompson in the prizes with nett 75. Joe Cruse scored the lowest gross of the day with a gross 72.
