The Battle Trophy this Saturday was the last of a 6 round series. 71 players competed in the medal round - a good turn out for our medal shy members!
The weather was lovely again with just a few light showers, and conditions were good. The scoring showed there is no need to fear the medal. 9 players played under handicap and beat the Competition Standard Scratch of 71.
Robbie Moore had a great round with 3 birdies bringing him in on par with the course. He took first place with a net 66 and hit the lowest gross of the day at 69. Robbie’s handicap is now cut to 2. The next 5 players came in with net 69, Phil Jory finished in 2nd on countback, John Pease in 3rd, Tuck Clagett in 4th (now back on form?), Shaun Beare in 5th and Neil Bradley in 6th. After them and in the prizes the next 3 players scored net 70. Martin Biddle took 7th place on countback followed by Andy Beare in 8th and Richard Matheron in 9th place.
The winner of the Battle Trophy for 2014 is Ken Perring. Ken had claimed the top spot in the table back in August after winning two of the first 4 rounds! He takes the lead by a clear 8 points. By winning this year, Ken has bettered his last years 3rd placing.
Having played all 6 in the series, Kevin Richards took 2nd place with 64 points and Robbie Moore’s win this Saturday moved him up the table to take the 3rd spot.
