The final round of the Battle Trophy was played on Saturday. In terms of weather it was a day of two halves with those playing early having to contend with rain and wind while those who played a little later had clear skies and even a bit of sun. There are 2 temporary tees on the course while work is being completed, one on the on the 6th and the other at 18, making the standard scratch 70, from the white tees.
Tuck Clagett had a storming round, after his birthday earlier in the week he scored a nett 63. With his card full of pars Tuck has had his handicap cut by 1.6! He also picked up the all important 20 series points moving him significantly up the table to be included in the prizes.
The rest of the field were 8 shots behind with 5 players finishing with nett 71. Decided by countback, Nick Shelley finished 2nd, Dennis Brown, 3rd, John Paul was 4th, Nigel Connolly finished 5th and Rob Cook was 6th. 12 series points were awarded to each but this was not enough to alter the series standings greatly.
The series finalised with James Hutchings winning The Battle Trophy 2018 with 54 points. John Paul finished 2nd with 50 points ahead of Chris Jennings in 3rd who also had 50 points, decided on 4th best score. Byron Weston finished 4th in the series with 47 points with Dennis Brown in 3rd and John Pease in 5th both with 45 points (also decided by 4th best score). Tuck Clagett and Andy Beare were joint 7th also with 45 point (neither had played a 4th round). Stuart Fleet was 9th with 44 points and Paul Warren was 10th with 43 points.
