Saturday saw the last round of the Battle Trophy. The Battle has been fought over the past 6 months, with 58 soldiers taking part in the series. Nigel Connolly was placed first in the series after 5 rounds so was keen to stay at the top, Dennis Brown and John Paul were close on his heels.
In Saturday’s competition there were 60 players, the weather was good, with not too much wind and the scores returned were good. The final result came down to the 18th hole.
Separated only by countback Dennis Brown won with nett 69, having birdied the 13th, Dennis stayed steady and calm finishing with a 5 on the 18th and picking up the maximum series points.
Phil Jory also had a nett 69, but finished in 2nd place with a double bogey on the 18th. Phil has been cut to 12.2.
Paul Warren was so close but so far. After fluffing his putt on the 18th for a 6, Paul finished in 3rd place. He has moved up the series table into the prizes though!
Nigel Connolly finished in 4th place with nett 71 securing 18 series points and the title of Battle Trophy Winner 2019.
Adrian Halling finished in 5th place with nett 71, there was a platoon of players with nett 72 and prizes were decided on countback with Derrick Rushton, James Hutchings and Byron Weston falling on the right side of the trench!
The Series was won by Nigel Connolly, just 1 series point separating him from 2nd place Dennis Brown. Both played in every round of the series and both have had a win during the 6 rounds. For the full series table, CLICK HERE.
