That sentinel wind so familiar to the Old Saints when playing at home, moved up the coast to Bude for the match on Tuesday, 07 July, but proved to have a malign influence on the visitors. Captain of the Day, Frank Harper, designated two of his pairs as the ‘bankers,’ but even they came unstuck against some stiff opposition. Whilst the result this time was a win for Bude 4½ - 3½, recalling the heavy defeat in the same fixture last year, Frank was not downhearted and confidently asserted that the old boys must be favourites to reclaim the Peter Commings Putter in the return match at St Enodoc.

No golfer ever swung too slowly. No golfer ever played too fast. No golfer ever dressed too plainly.
