On a beautiful October day 56 Men and Ladies set out to compete in the Annual Captains\' Challenge viz. \"Men vs Ladies\"
The format, and which the Mens Captain claimed was entirely of the Ladies Captain\'s invention and which she in turn denied - blaming instead Freda Wherry, was mischevious. This was a stableford 4BBB competition, the winning team being determined by the aggregate stableford scores of all team members. The twist in the tail being that the Ladies were permitted to \"invite\" the Men to play off one blue tee and one red on the front nine and to repeat the invite on the back nine.
Needless to say this led to the Men losing a fair number of balls and in turn the corresponding stableford points. Despite this not inconsiderable handicap many of the matches were very close but, for the Men, not close enough. The final difference, in favour of the Ladies, in aggregate scores being nine points.
The Club Captain graciously accepted defeat and invited the participants to repair to the restaurant for supper.
