On Monday, 19 September and soaked by relentless Cornish mizzle, the Seniors played host to old friends from Royal North Devon. After the 6-2 beating they suffered a couple of weeks ago at the Devon club, they faced a significant challenge if they were to reclaim the trophy - the Johnny Fallon Driver. This was given by David Balmford and awarded to the club with the best aggregate score over the two matches. It was used by Fallon when he was victorious in the 1955 Ryder Cup.
Not only did the Old Saints overcome the challenges of the weather and their opponents, but they more than reversed the ‘away’ score by winning 6½ - 1½. And the Johnny Fallon Driver is safely back at St Enodoc, (8½ - 7½) for another year.
The RND captain hoped that he was nearest the pin on the 5th, but unfortunately, after a quick call to the R & A, his hopes were dashed as he had hit his tee shot from the 9th tee !
