St. Enodoc Golf Club - A good win for the Seniors at Launceston

A good win for the Seniors at Launceston

On Monday 15 August, on what turned out to be one of the best days of the summer so far, the Old Saints arrived for one of their favourite fixtures, at Launceston Golf Club. With a 2½ - 5½ advantage from a good home match, hopes were high to retake the famous “Veterans Challenge” shield, now newly refurbished, at great expense (allegedly), after a year at Launceston GC.

The early matches started well with the Captain of the Day and partner, Bill Gowans, four up by the 6th hole. The second pairing, of Nigel Thomas and new man, Andy Farrant, were also up on the early holes. Both pairs, though were pulled back by a competitive home team and at one time the Captain and his partner were 1 down! However the recovery proved short lived with the final result being a victory to the Old Saints 5 - 3. With the “Shield” back at St Enodoc in its rightful place (where’s that again ?) the Seniors look forward to the 2017 fixtures with great anticipation.
