This Saturday’s competition was a 3-Man Team Texas Scramble. All players play all shots with the preferred shot taken, however the team must use a minimum of 4 drives from each player. 17 Teams entered the competition. After spending some time figuring out how to form teams of 3, the format and course were a doddle and some great scores were returned.
It was a crisp cold day with a couple of heavy, cold showers and an increasing north-westerly. The wind a lot calmer than the previous week, did not seem to interfere with a good day’s golf.
Drawn by chance from their usual Saturday group, Josh Greenaway, Rob Cook and John Paul made up a formidable team to steal first prize. Their combined handicap being only 8 they would have won the day on their gross score! They were 12 under through 16, and then bogeyed 17, they pulled back a par on 18 to finish with a combined gross score of 58, nett 57.2.
Shaun Beare, Tris Lang and Danny Hoare made up another strong team bogeying just the 10th and returning a gross score of 62 and nett 58.1 to take second prize. In third place Richard Norsworthy and Steve Smith had to steal Joe Cruse from behind the bar, but it paid off! Using 9 of Joe’s drives they returned with a nett 62.7. Fourth place went to Mike Buse, Nigel Buse and Andy Bunt whose steady round earned them a nett 62.8. The scores throughout, were close and good; 12 teams beat the course par.
