2018/19 CTC campaign starts off with a fine win

Team l to r: Ian Jolliffe, Guy Hovil, Joe Combellack, Lewis Bradley, Steve Buse, David Lupton, Mike Masters, Steve Chapman (Captain), Josh Greenaway and Jack Irwin

On a beautiful Autumn day with gorgeous sunshine and barely a breath of wind to rotate the local turbines St Enodoc started their winter CTC campaign with a 1st round tie against Bude & North Cornwall. The match was played at Bowood Park GC where the course was in fine condition with lush fairways and fair greens.

This was the first CTC match in a good number of years which has not featured Joe Cruse, the current Cornwall County Champion but now a Professional Golfer. How would the team fare without their totem ? Bude & North Cornwall are traditionally a strong team and who have always provided challenging opposition in the past, whilst St Enodoc once again selected a strong and experienced squad the only debutant being the very experienced Ian Jolliffe. Newly equiped in tops and polo shirts sponsored by St Kew Inn the team certainly looked the part when posing for the team 'photo at 0745 this morning - but would they deliver ?

So the morning results were:

Josh Greenaway & Steve Buse beat Dan Vanstone & Laurie Bridges 1 up

Steve Chapman & Ian Jolliffe halved with Shaun Marshall & Harry Macauley

Jack Irwin & Mike Masters won 2&1 vs Gary Stone & Mark Jenkins

Guy Hovil & David Lupton halved with Steve Rickard & Harry Wellington

Lewis Bradley beat Tim Greenslade 4&3

Morning result: St Enodoc 3.75 points Bude 1 point

Afternoon singles results:

Josh Greenaway beat Laurie Bridges 2&1

Steve Chapman beat Dan Vanstone 6&5

Ian Jolliffe beat Shaun Marshall 1 up

Guy Hovil beat Harry Macauley 7&6

Joe Combellack lost Gary Stone 4&3

Mike Masters beat Steve Rickard 5&3

David Lupton beat Harry Wellington 2&1

Match result: St Enodoc 10.75 points Bude 2 points
