Our Club Captain clearly has connections with all the right people as this competition was blessed with sublime weather. Sun, sun and sun marked the day with just a hint of breeze for the twenty-four pairs on Sunday 29th May. Ian Waters was the Secretary of the Club immediately before our present General Manager and this competition marks his untimely death whilst still in office.
The format of Mixed Greensomes Stableford is popular as the luxury of having the choice of which of two tee shots to take can lead to high scoring and whilst the scoring was good it was not high as the James Braid design Church Course still retains it's ability to bite even on the balmiest of days.
In third place and partnered by his daughter Jenny Justice, a current Surrey County player, was Simon Pain. In second place were the ever reliable pairing of Annie and Norman Hawkey. It is often said that the best pairing for this format are a high and low handicappper playing together and so it proved with Rod Frost and wife Sue Kingston-Frost running out as winners - well played !
On the Holywell Course in a parallel competition the evergreen Malcolm Jones and wife Sue ran out as winners by the narrowest of margins.
1st Sue Kingston-Frost & Rod Frost 38 points
2nd Annie & Norman Hawkey 36 points
3rd Jenny Justice & Simon Pain 35 points
