Every December since 1985 the St Enodoc Head Professional Nick Williams has organised the Christmas Turkey Trot and which is famed for a generous and heaving prize table. Played in foursomes format this competition is amongst the most popular of the Club's golfing calendar reflected in the high turn out with eight golfers on every hole.
Rock weather is notoriously difficult to forecast and so it proved today. Your scribe checked four different weather forecasts this morning and each of them predicted a dry, blustery but overcast day. Wrong, wrong, wrong ! Driving rain of the very fine variety guaranteed to test the best waterproof kit to the limit welcomed the golfers and kept up on and off for the four hours of golf. Fed up with the weather (and perhaps their score) one pair even walked off the course and were then fined for lack of moral fibre.
Fines for the Captain's Charity were the order of the day at the start of the prize giving. Amongst the more notable - Simon Pain for promising good weather; Lewis Wotherspoon for wearing sunglasses - perhaps to keep the rain out of his eyes ? And various others for misdemenours real and imagined.
Those who managed the testing conditions best and with some very good scores were
1st Andy Bunt & Russell Combellack 35 points
2nd Martin & David Biddle 32 points
3rd Tamsin & Richard Blake 31 points
The golfers were then invited to dine and dance to Wappo's world famous disco to set the festive season off in style.
