On an early autumn day and with conditions good for golf, not cold and quite balmy at Newquay GC which was presented in fine conditon, St Enodoc set out to retain the Frank Wills Salver they won in the spring.
Keith Hawke a member of two winning Salver teams took over the Captaincy of the team from Bob Cruse and who had steered the club to a three year Frank Wills record of Played 14 Won 13. Keith\'s chosen team showed a number of changes from last seasons winners, some due to unavailabilty and some due to prior committment. That said a local bookie if asked to nominate a winner would probably said that St Enodoc would shade the match and he would have been wrong ! In a very tight match Carlyon Bay GC and whose pairings all received at least one shot from their opponents who played the better golf and ran off gleefully with the tie. The tightness of the affair may be judged from the fact that it all turned on the first pair of Brenton and Bunt having to play the 19th to determine their result. They lost to an excellent Carlyon birdie on that hole and that decided the match at 3 – 2.
Speaking after the match Captain Keith Hawke said \"I want to thank my team today for giving their all in a match that was decided at the 19th hole. Everyone can take it as read that I appreciate every single effort that you gave. Thank you”
