Winning start to the season for Seniors

Published: 20th March 2013

The Seniors entertained Truro Seniors in the first match of the season on Monday 18 March in conditions which were benign compared with the Arctic-like challenge of the previous Monday.

Perhaps the sun shone upon the righteous or the offerings of the Archbishop of Canterbury, in Truro on the same day, were insufficient for the visitors, because the 'Saints of Enodoc' ran out comfortable winners, 6 – 2. Captain of the day, Dr David, said that he was very grateful to the other losing pair, but was also mildly concerned that Richard Parsons and Stuart Sandercock should be such inconsiderate hosts as to win 8 & 7 !

The languid Dick Leivers won nearest the pin and it is worth mentioning that in the pre-match roll-up, the Holywell roll-up and the Truro match combined, there were no fewer than 50 seniors wielding their clubs on the two courses

The Holywell Seniors Stableford boasted 20 of them and they produced some good results. David Ramsbottom on 37 and David Girling on 38 were the chasers but George Phillips 42 points took the accolades. This was a very good round with one blob and has cost him 3 off his handicap! Half the field were in the comfort zone with one or two also-rans bringing up the rear.

Recent highlights include a "fizzer" of a hole in one at the 5th for Bill Lugg. He also had two birdies in the Stableford. Well done Bill!
