Rain showers, wind, sunshine and finally a torrential downpour - a great mix of weather for the annual Captain's Day competitions. As usual the format was fourball better ball with 2 scores to count and there were competitions on both the Church and Holywell courses. So bad was it during the heaviest of the rain that 3 clubs, a driver, a 7 iron and a wedge, parted company with their owners slippery hands made a dive for freedom helicoptering through the air and were lost in the process! In view of the conditions the scores were really very good. The only salvation on the day was the St Austell Brewery vintage van dispensing liquid refreshmnents by the 10th tee.

Penny Cartwright and Andy Roberts were the closest to the pin winners, Susie Willmott and Andy Bunt's long drives won them prizes. On the Holywell course 2 teams tied on 90 points so countback decided the winners and on the Church it was also very close as can be seen.

Holywell results
1st  Bernard Moore, Walter Dudley, Helen Russell, Di Mindel 90 pts
2nd  Derek Kingsbury, Terry Carter, Pam Hall, Sue Moore 90 pts

Church Course
1st  Julian Darnell, Norman Hawkey, Alan Tibbenham, Terri Gliddon 80 pts

3rd  Steve Smith, Mike Parry, Susie Willmott, Barbara Robson 79 pts
4th  Andy Bunt, Dave Oldham, John Russell, Maggie Day 79 pts

During the prizegiving a giant teddy bear was skillfully auctioned by Malcolm Cole for £55 with the proceeds going to the Captain's charity and the day was rounded off by a really superb BBQ meal by which time the awful weather had been forgotten!
