Who is Katie Rule

Published: 1st September 2011, Updated: 16th September 2011

Living in Falmouth and being in full time education not many St Enodoc Members have met Katie but have only seen her name in lights as one of our most talented young players so a short article on her was felt to be in order.

Katie is 18 and only played her first 18 holes of golf at the age of 13 having decided to change sports after winning the British Under 10, 11 and 12 Table Tennis Championships in successive years.  So a surprisingly late start to proper golf but  having knocked balls about from a very young age and with her Father John, a one time golf teacher coaching her, improvement was very rapid and she got her handicap down to 9 in just a year.

Katies progress has been meteoric for in 2010 she won the South West Medal at China Fleet and this year was runner up in the Cornwall LGU Championship and runner up again in the National Order of Merit Cup at Porters Park. Katie joined St Enodoc last year as she says because it “is the best course in Cornwall” and has been one of the stars of this years Gammon team.

Next month sees Katie start a 2 year degree course at Duchy College in Tournament Golf which may give a clue to her possible future career. It was a real pleasure talking to such a modest but highly talented sportswoman who despite being slight and not very tall (so speaks the Webmaster) hits the ball a tremendous distance – a real object lesson to all of us and all credit to her and John. Good luck for the future and long may you enjoy St Enodoc and we will all be following your career.
