Wet Golf for the Seniors

Published: 4th July 2012

The recent Seniors Stablefords on the Holywell and the Church shared relatively low scoring because of rotten, unseasonal, inclement weather, rather than general incompetence with golf club in hand, as some may have assumed. On the Holywell Mike Buckingham triumphed with 32 points, confirming his elevation to fully-fledged Senior Senior in the process, followed by George Phillips on 31 points just ahead on count-back of Derek Kingsbury, the latter two thereby confirming the efficacy of the Seniors bespoke handicap system for the Holywell.

On the Church course the conscientious Seniors Secretary, Tony Mindel, prevailed with a hard-earned and rather wet 33 points followed by Keith Willmott on 31 points and Harry Gliddon on 29. Owing to the general hubbub in the bar afterwards, and to the inability of the

card-checker to concentrate properly, third prize was awarded to a different player, but it is hoped that this formal confirmation of the correct placing will be sufficient to pacify the Seniors Captain, and that no disciplinary measures will be taken.
