On a day when much of the country was suffering frost and freezing fog North Cornwall was bathed in warm sunshine for the whole day. The links at St Enodoc were open for business as always and eighty golfers set out to do battle for either the General Manager's (Tuck Clagett) team or for the Head Pro's (Nick Williams) team. This event is one of the most popular in the Club's golfing calendar but not always as blessed as yesterdays with wall to wall warm sunshine. As usual the format for the match was four ball better ball match play with added banter and sledging thrown in for good measure.

With Tuck destined for retirement in the summer of 2017 yesterdays match would be his last in charge of the General Managers team, but not perhaps as a participant. Tuck has lead his team for fifiteen years now and, with three cancelled events, played in thirteen of which he has won nine; the importance of this small matter will no doubt be impressed upon Tuck's successor during the handover period. In the circumstances it seemed entirely appropriate that the result of yesterdays match would also be in his favour and by the considerable margin of 12.5 points to 7.5 points. Any thought that this might have been given in charity would soon be dispelled by a conversation with any of the players, each match having been fought to the death.

With some help from Nick Williams handing out fines to all and sundry like the local JP the Club Captain's Charity ended 2016 with a large bonus.
