The Seniors overcome China Fleet

Published: 2nd June 2014

The Seniors’ run of success seems to continue (although writing that is probably the kiss of death !) as they managed a comfortable win 7 – 1, at home against China Fleet on Friday, 30 May. This dish tasted all the sweeter following the thumping inflicted by the opposition in the same match last season.

Captain of the day, Paul Godfrey, being a very big chap anyway, was in assertive and censorial mood as he imposed fines – with a broad smile of course – upon two of his own team. Firstly, on David E for having the audacity to drive through the Captain’s match on not one, but two occasions ! And secondly, on Derek R for wearing shorts, allegedly tailored (!!), which may not have infringed the Club’s dress code, but defied any known fashion statement of the last seventy-five years. Although with some elastic below the knees, they would have passed for the bloomers so loved by my long departed grandmother ! The Old Saints also produced some very decent golf !

  • Paul Godfrey & Nigel Thomas won 1 up
