Lightning strike on a tree at the rear of the 9th green

Last Saturday morning at about 5 am most residents of Rock were woken by thunder and lightning followed by a hailstorm. This covered the roads and made them treacherous for about three hours.

The residents of Brea Hill in particular must have wondered if their world was about to end; the picture above shows one of the trees there split from top to bottom. The debris and very large - four feet long - splinters were showered around the 9th and 15th greens, some were found down by the pond. In daylight hours this could have been a very dangerous incident.
