On Thursday and Friday the Club hosted the annual visit of the Senior Golfers Society for a match which has taken place every year since 1947.

In the last three years there has also been a match on Thursday, as a precursor, against the Club's Seniors which was won this year by the Club 9 – 3, the margin of victory belying the fact that several matches went to the 18th. There were thirteen pairs on each side in the main fixture on Friday on a day full of incident. Both sides had to be re-arranged at the last minute because of non-arrivals, which could, one supposes be ascribed to 'senior moments'. As a result the match was graced by the participation of a lady, Sue Claxton, who represented the Senior Golfers Society, possibly a unique event. By all accounts there were some close matches, but the result was the same as on Thursday at 9 – 3 to the Club, with one match unfortunately unfinished because one of the participants was feeling unwell.

As usual, the Senior Golfers Society and their ladies filled the Club's dining-room on the Thursday evening together with a large number of guests from the Club. There were witty, and relatively short, speeches by the Club Captain, John Baxter, and John Bragg in reply for the Society, with due tribute being paid to all the efforts of Roy Hunt, the Society's match manager for the last ten years, without which there had been a danger that the fixture could have lapsed. His successor, Humphrey Claxton, also a Club Member, will undoubtedly maintain the popularity of these matches in spite of claiming to be utterly unsuited to the role of match manager. Roy recited his splendid parody of 'The Lion and Albert' written by Marriott Edgar for Stanley Holloway, and as a finale everyone sang 'We'll meet again' with the inimitable Roy on the ukelele.
