A full field from far and wide competed in the annual Seniors’ Open on Monday, 05 October. As usual, although the draw for places was made as long ago as last April, the entry was heavily over-subscribed and a healthy waiting list was also kept in reserve. This is yet another testimony to the status and popularity of our Club.

The weather forecast threatened dire conditions, but fortunately, whilst it was gloomy and overcast, apart from a few tinkles, the rain held off until much later in the day.

Whilst there were close results amongst the visitors resulting in a count-back on 39 points for the all their prize positions, two St Enodoc members, Ian Day and Allen Nichols took first place and the Norman Walmsley Trophy with 42 points.

Results are listed below and although Dereck Stevens (Perranporth) won the longest drive competition on the 7th, it was general agreed that two visitors, one from Wilmslow and the other from Abingdon should really have shared the prize as they both had the longest drives !

Compliments about the course, the hospitality, catering and the organization of the day - this latter being down mainly to retiring Seniors’ Secretary Tony Mindel - were widely expressed.

There were 16 winners in the 2’s competition each receiving 7 balls - most notable certainly being our own Roger Priestley’s eagle 2 on the 3rd hole.
