After the elation of winning the South Western slot for the English Counties Finals yesterday it was back to earth with a bump today on Day 4 of the South Western Championships and back to match play against Gloucestershire. First out, as usual, was Cornish Champion Joe Cruse against South Western Champion Laurie Potter with what looked to be, and certainly was, the top game of the morning as it was nothing short of a Birdiefest with some really great golf which Joe finally won 3 & 2. With Harry Hall providing the only other win we went into lunch 6 -2 down

The afternoon Foursomes had a familiar ring with the first match again Cruse v Potter joined respectively by Matt Richards and Mitch Waite. Again some stunning play with the Cornwall boys birdieing 3 of the 4 holes prior to leaving the 15th green 1 up and holding on to win 2 & 1. Josh Greenaway and Richard Jasper did not get off to a great start but their opponents Nick Day & Noah Hessey with birdies on 7 and 8 drove home the advantage and ran out 6 &4 winners. Game 3 went to the final green after some fine play all round by Harry Hall and “Big Mac” Rob McGregor including an Eagle 3 on the 15th against Thomas Workman & Joe Long. Unfortunately Cornwall were unable to hold onto the one hole advantage they had on the 18th tee and the match was halved. The final game saw Chris Fleming & Jared Mortimore struggle all the way against Jake Phillips & David Wood going down 5 & 4.

Not the best of days with the team showing signs of mental as well as physical tiredness after the success the day before but it has to be said that Gloucestershire played magnificent golf and were worthy winners 9¾ to 4¼ . Tomorrow is another day with Wiltshire the opponents.
