Seniors stumble at China Fleet

Published: 18th June 2014

The Seniors came unstuck on Monday, 16 June in the return match at China Fleet, losing by 6 matches to 2. However, Captain of the Day, Paul Godfrey, was not reluctant to point out that as the Seniors had won 7 – 1 at home a few weeks previously, he was able to squeeze out some consolation as the aggregate was in favour of the Old Saints after all !

Historically, the opponents have always been a difficult team to beat and on their own parkland course, this occasion proved to be no exception when even some of our reliable ‘bankers’ could not prevail. Perhaps the steady coming and going in the sunshine of the young ladies en route to the gym, the pool or the squash court had a disturbing influence upon the old boys’ concentration !

  • Paul Godfrey & Nigel Thomas lost 4 & 3

  • Kevin Birkett & Kenton Williams lost 4 & 3
  • John Harbinson & Mike Maberly won 4 & 3
