Seniors share the spoils at China Fleet

Published: 16th June 2015

After their earlier thumping victory at home, the old boys were eager to complete the double in the return match at China Fleet on Monday, 15 June, whilst the hosts were no doubt keen to avoid a second defeat. In the end neither side achieved their objective as the entertaining fixture, on the delightful parkland course, finished with honours even at 4 -4. However, Old Hickory notes that two pairs (3 and 5) did manage to achieve the double by beating their opponents on foreign turf.

  • Paul Godfrey & David Elliott lost 3 & 2
  • Derek Rushton & Tony Mindel halved
  • Keith Hawke & Bill Comyn won 5 & 4
  • Kevin Birkett & Steve Smith won 4 & 2
  • Mike Maberly & John Harbinson won 2 up
  • Nigel Thomas & Colin Earle halved
  • Stuart Sandercock & Geoff Matthews lost 4 & 3
  • Ken Metcalfe & Richard Parsons lost 1 down

NTP: A delighted Steve Smith !

Old Hickory’s trivia: When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls.

If you’re afraid a full shot might reach the green while the game ahead is still putting out, you have two options: You can immediately shank a lay-up, or you can wait until the green is clear and top a ball halfway there.
