Already an established fixture in the calendar on the first Monday in October, the fifth Seniors Open enjoyed a dry day this year, albeit with an increasingly blustery wind. Fifty-four pairs competed for the Norman Walmsley Trophy, mostly from the south-west, but a few from further afield. In contrast to last year the home members fared better, helped perhaps by their experience of the local climate. The scoring was again very good, and an exceptional round ensured that the trophy was carried off by Peter Commings and Paul Godfrey.

Full results:

Winners - Peter Commings & Paul Godfrey 44 points

Second - Simon Kolesar (Walton Heath) & Charles Rayment 42

Third - Kenton Williams & Nigel Thomas 41

Fourth - Mike Worden & Frank Harper 40

There were nine '2's which earned their proponents 17 balls apiece.

With Seniors Captain, Harry Gliddon, in command and John Godwin at the helm, this event continues to go from strength-to-strength, and thanks are due, as ever, to them and to their band of merry men admirably marshalled by first mate, Tony Mindel.
