Seniors’ Monthly Qualifier

Published: 3rd December 2014

Another large field of Seniors took to the links on Monday, 1st December in the monthly Stableford qualifier, in weather which belied the season.

For some it was a day of minor misfortunes, amongst them, the tall vice-captain called Paul, in red trousers and white shoes, who was doubtless practising his Anglo-Saxon fluency when seen in some conflict with the Himalaya Bunker. The current Seniors’ treasurer and ex-Club Captain, whilst considering the position of his hands at the top of his back-swing, failed to notice that his trolley had taken a liking for the watery stuff on the 4th hole ! We are not told whether Mike enjoyed the sandwiches which he later poured out of his bag ! And the Seniors’ captain was understood to have wobbled his equilibrium when returning to his car in the now dark car park and realized that his car keys were missing.

Others were more fortunate, notably the most senior senior in the field, Derek Kingsbury - who continues to create aspiration and inspiration – when he returned a creditable 33 points and third place, still muttering that his handicap was too low.

  • 1st Kevin Birkett 36 pts
  • 2nd Richard Parsons 34 pts
  • 3rd Derek Kingsbury 33 pts

Captain Richard Parsons, who found his keys just in time to listen to the Archers, introduced a 2’s competition to the qualifier, which resulted in 4 players receiving 7 balls each – Malcolm Knight, Keith Willmott, Malcolm Cole and Richard Parsons.
