Seniors come unstuck at Truro

Published: 21st July 2016

On Friday 1st July 2016, flushed with the success of a 7 – 1 win at home and full of optimism, the Seniors travelled to Truro for the return fixture.

As usual, Truro Golf Club in July, which is a beautiful parkland courses is a wonderful place to play golf, and the weather was kind with just one very brief shower.

The match turned out to be very tight affair with five matches going to the eighteenth, but in the end Truro triumphed 6½ - 1½.

The only winners for St. Enodoc were Seniors’ Captain Paul Godfrey and his partner John Bower. Had it not been for a wonderful long putt on the eighteenth green by Mike Lovett to half their match the result would have been 7-1 so thanks to Mike and his partner David Ramsbottom for the half, which enabled the Old Saints to claim the aggregate victory by one point.

Nearest the pin on the sixteenth for St. Enodoc was Richard Norsworthy, who was probably celebrating his appointment as Captain of the day for the upcoming fixture with Bude.
