Runaway Victory in the Watson Wedge

Published: 7th November 2016

The Tom Watson Wedge was a fairly closely run battle until late in the day on Saturday when one team scorched the field with some very impressive dovetailing for a huge margin over the field.

This competition proved excellent fun in a format where the risk and reward choice of tees was used to good advantage by those who could handle the Blues. The team of Rob Cook, Joe Combellack, John Paul and Nigel Buse played some superb golf, all contributing in equal measure to the very impressive tally of 96 points, some 8 points ahead of second place. A player using the Blue tees needed to score gross par or better to score, but if they did they were awarded a bonus stableford point in this 2 scores to count format. The winners were successful 18 times off Blue tees, hence the runaway victory. Well done boys, impressive stuff indeed.

In second place were previous Watson Wedge winners, Steve Buse, Andy Bunt, Mike Buse and Kevin Francis with 88 points and third was Shaun Beare, John Rowe, Andy Griffiths and Tris Lang with 83.
