RND squeezes a win against the Seniors

Published: 3rd September 2014

Each season and twice in the same week, the Seniors play against Royal North Devon Seniors, at home and away. The first of these matches took place on the Church course on Monday, 01 September. In a very close contest, the visitors squeezed home by 4½ - 3½ and so have their noses in front at the halfway stage in the competition for the trophy, the Johnny Fallon driver. As dedicated readers will remember (and that’s something of a challenge to one or two of the old boys !) the driver was used by Fallon in the 1955 Ryder Cup and was presented to the clubs by David Balmford. The return match is on Friday, 05 September at RND, the oldest course in England.
The Old Saints may not win every match, but the Captain’s regular pre-match PowerPoint presentation puts them way ahead of the field. A comprehensive, colourful, creative, amusing and informative show will soon have visitors queuing to get a seat ! Someone quipped that the quality of the show together with his Menu cards, suggested that the Captain needed a bigger garden ! But seriously, thank you Nigel !
