It is not really the place for this website to recommend golf magazines but one has come to our attention which is very different. Those older Members may remember that the best magazine on golf in their youth was the fortnightly Golf Illustrated which eventually disappeared off the scene altogether.
The editorial staff of probably the best of the monthly mags Golf World have relaunched Golf Illustrated in a very different format. Firstly it is only now published quarterly and also only available by subscription on the internet at www.greatmagazines.co.uk/golfillustrated by phone at 01858 438823.
So what is so special about it? It is the content which is much more coffee table, with excellent photos, than monthly golf magazines with much more in depth articles on the history of golf and its personalities. The current issue has lengthy articles on Donald Trump's new Scottish course, the history of Ping, the building of Augusta, greenkeeping at the Belfry, revetted bunkers and two of golf's stranger characters Moe Norman and Mac O'Grady plus many others.
It is a facinating read for those who enjoy the background and history of golf and as a final touch the current issue finishes with one of Dave Cannon's pictures of the 16thand John Betjeman's poem Seaside Golf.
