Cornwall U-12's with St Enodoc's Quinn Bateman fron left
There were a total of 19 yellow topped juniors buzzing around Tehidy Golf Course on Sunday, as the first leg of the annual CGU U12’s CLCGA U15’s got under way. With several of the girls team unable to make it, and the boys fielding a strong 12 players, the game of choice very quickly became an individual team stableford event. Once again the golfing gods looked favorably on our players, as the weather was dry, warm and with a little breeze. Ideal conditions for a golf competition!
The U12 team featured the usual suspects who have played County golf in the past: Archie Fox (Falmouth), Jack Kevern (West Cornwall), Hugo Watson (St Austell), Harry Drewett (Mullion), Matthew Hooper (Truro), and Harry Richards (St Austell)
The team also had the pleasure of fielding 6 new players, who have only recently acquired their CONGU handicaps.Isaac D’Bue (Falmouth), Quinn Bateman (St Enodoc), Jack Welch (Whitsand Bay), Kai Dingle (The Point), Huxley Kirby (West Cornwall) and Wilf Gammon (Trevose).
The results:
1st Place – Hugo Watson, Matthew Hooper and Wilf Gammon - 78 point (pictured above)
2nd Place - Harry Drewett, Isaac D’Bue and Jack Welch – 76 points
3rd Place - Katie Jenkin, Maisie Drewett, Maddie Watson and Emma Longley – 75 points
There were some outstanding performances from all the newcomers in what was understandably a nervy affair wearing the yellow top for the first time: Wilf scored 34 points with 3 blobs, Isaac birdied the 18th, Jack scored 19 points on the front 9, Kai drainied a massive put on the 1st, Huxley carded 5 3 pointers, and young Quinn for being the most consistently straight player on the park. A great effort by all of the newcomers, and the future is already started to look brighter!
The presentation was presided over by Dave Watson, the U12 Manager, with the much appreciated support of Sue Philips from the CLCGA. Both Archie Fox (U12 Captain) and Kira Barnes (U15 Captain) said a few words, thanking Tehidy for a wonderfully presented course and the generous opportunity to play on it.
