Past Captains' Competition

Published: 5th July 2012

Members and visitors would not fail to be impressed with the debating skills this body of 'gentlemen' still demonstrate. Listening to the 8, (2 unable to attend) gathered around the table arguing about 'whether they should go out on the course in the rain'...'what format should their competition take?' but topic of the day was 'what collective noun is used to describe a group of Past Captains?'

Yes they did venture forth and enjoyed 18 holes in bright sunshine. They played an individual 18 hole Stableford and along with suggestions of 'a murder,' 'a babble,' 'a confusion,' it was accepted that the collective to be used to describe our ever increasing group of Past Captains in the future would be 'a flush.' John Walker came a good third with a score of 29 points. Keith Willmott came second with 30 points but it was Mike Jarvis who took the coveted 'Claret Jug' with a creditable score of 34 points.
