When last August a sign up sheet was posted announcing a Mixed away trip to Ferndown and Dudsbury in Dorset there was no shortage of takers together with a healthy reserve list. As she has done in the past this trip was organised by Terri Gliddon; her organisation and attention to every tiny detail was immaculate. Thanks to this and some excellent weather the trip was enjoyed by everyone regardless of their success or otherwise on the golf course.

Having negotiated the dangers of the A35 and A31 the first day was spent at Ferndown GC and where Head Pro Scott Godfrey was on hand to welcome Members from his Alma Mater. Ferndown is a lovely course, ranked at #25 in England by Golf World magazine, beautifully maintained and presented. Surrounded by mature pine trees and set in heather this was a delight to play.

Days 2 & 3 were spent at Dudsbury GC which also housed and fed the party - rather well it must be said - the semi-formal dinner on the second evening was excellent. Dudsbury GC hosted the SW Counties Championship a few years ago, it is long and due to recent rain was playing extra long. It is also hilly, enjoyable but not in the same league as Ferndown.

There were prizes galore on offer for the golf; Terri must have used a small lorry to bring all the bottles along. Amongst the many winners were -

Day 1 individual stableford Ladies

1st Ruth East 36 pts
2nd Marie Bradbury 33 pts

3rd Annie Cruse 32 pts

Men

1st Harry Gliddon 35 pts

2nd Paddy Graham 35 pts

3rd Kristian Godfrey 34 pts

Ferndown winners Ruth East and Harry Gliddon

On day 2 the competition was a mixed Dallas Scramble won by the team of Paddy Graham, Jean Nicholls, Geoff Mathews & Marie Bradbury

The final day's individual stableford at Dudsbury threatened to be spoilt by rain but a text message requesting intervention from Tony Rounsevell soon fixed that and it stopped exactly at the moment the first group set foot on the first tee.

Those who managed best and cleared up the remaining stocks of vino were

Ladies

1st Ruth East 34 pts

2nd Larry Barnecutt 30 pts

3rd Barbara Graham 28 pts

Men

1st Tuck Clagett 38 pts

2nd Richard Blake 35 pts

3rd Kristian Godfrey 35 pts
