Mixed Team win away at Royal North Devon

Published: 10th October 2011

Ten St Enodoc mixed pairs bravely ventured out of the County on Sunday 9th October to the Northam Burrows at Westward Ho! RND lays claim to being the oldest links course in England and is rightly famed for that. Originally designed by Old Tom Morris and modernised in 1908 by Henry Fowler the course is common land and a wayward shot will still put a commoners sheep or pony in danger. In short the place is full of character and history and on Sunday also full of wind and drizzle to add to the difficulties of playing a different course. Brilliantly led and inspired by Captain Keith Willmott the team overcame these multitude of difficulties to win 6 and 4. The hosts, whilst no doubt disappointed, were most courteous and hospitable in defeat. There is no doubt that this was a day well enjoyed by all participants.
