If there was ever a day when the well worn cliche "Mixed Gruesomes" was apposite then this was it. The early starters were rewarded with a semi-dry round of golf but most had to put up with 35 mph gusts of continuous driving rain. Prizes just for finishing 18 holes would not have been out of place.

The drying room in the Mens Locker room was overflowing with wet kit and a little puddle was observed creeping out from under the door. One gentleman, a well known green finger man with a liking for Tetley tea, having forgotten a change of clothes was observed drying his trousers in the Dyson hand dryer !

Despite the challenges all 70 golfers from the Holywell and Church courses seemed in good humour once they divested themselves of wet kit.

Those who managed the wet rather better than others were

Holywell:

  • 1st David & Carolyn Ramsbottom 41 points
  • 2nd Peter & Pauline Meredith 37 points
  • 3rd Nigel Ashcroft & Judy Cole 36 points

Church:

  • 1st Kevin Francis & Suzie Willmott 33 points
  • 2nd Malcolm Cole & Lyn Ashcroft 31 points
  • 3rd Keith & Barbara Willmott 28 points
  • 4th Will & Rhiannon Rich 27 points

The Club Captain reminded those present of the next mixed golf event, on both courses, on February 16th - a Valentines event - naturellement !
