Men's Monte Carlo Competition

Published: 4th September 2013

Saturday 31st August saw 72 members competing in a pairs competition playing the Monte Carlo format. In this unusual format both players scores on each hole are multiplied together to give a total score for the hole, this can make scoring very tricky as both players need to be on form to score well. To actually score both players needed to get at least one point on each hole, so if one player had 3 points and the other had a blob the net effect was a nil score.

Conditions on the day were good with sunshine and light winds that increased in strength as the day went on, the pairing of Rich Hawken and Ryan Perring set a blistering pace with a score of 45 points on the front nine and an 18 hole total of 63 points although ultimately this was only good enough for Second Place after losing on count-back to the pairing of Paul Warren and John Westlake who came in with a very good back nine of 37 points compared to Rich and Ryan’s back nine of 18 points. The pairing of John Radford and Richard Blake rounded out the top three finishing a point further behind with a score of 62 points.
