Mail on Sunday – 2nd Round

After receiving a bye in the first round of the competition, our Mail on Sunday team were drawn to play away against The Point at Polzeath on Saturday 14th March. After a very warm welcoming reception of coffee and biscuits, the players went out into a bracing south westerly wind to do battle.
St Enodoc seized an early lead with comfortable wins for Jax and Di, but as the last two matches swung in favour of The Point, the third match on the course proved to be the deciding one. This was a very closely contested match culminating in an exciting finish. Jackie Smeeth holed a terrific putt on the 18th green which looked good enough to extend the match, however Terri Gliddon remained cool under pressure and slotted home a tricky downhill putt to win the crucial point and book St Enodoc a place in the third round draw.
Well done to all the players and caddies.

  • Jax Buse beat Jackie Bembridge 3 & 1

  • Di Dingle beat Dawn Peters 4 & 3

  • Terri Gliddon beat Jackie Smeeth 1 up

  • Trudie Tensjo lost to Paula Thomas 2 & 1

  • Sue Willmott lost to Sue Hodge 7 & 5 (giving 8 shots)
