Saturday 25th June saw 40 ladies venture away from the familiar fairways of St Enodoc to enjoy a day at Bowood ‘on sea’ for Ladies Captain Annie Cruse’s away day. The theme for the day was ‘A seaside Holiday’ and participants were encouraged to arrive wearing or carrying something appropriate for such an event. Inevitably this resulted in some entertaining ensembles being sported on the day as can be seen from the photos!

Even the weather joined in with the day by providing typical British seaside holiday weather of sideways rain and wind to welcome the ladies in the morning although this subsided in time for the golf and the remainder of the day was dry if a little chilly for bathing wear! Teams of four played in a ‘Scramble Drive’ format and were provided with refreshments after the 10th hole, where Geoff Matthews was to be found lurking in the woods with a well laden table (no that’s not a euphemism!).

On returning to the clubhouse the players enjoyed an excellent meal followed by the prize giving. The winning team was Terri Gliddon, Viv Steer, Judy Redman and Kim Lord who also happened to have arrived in the most impressive ‘beach wear’ in the morning. On the basis that they could only win one prize, the team awarded the prize for a swimmingly good effort was Tamsin Blake, Diana Mindel, Carole Carter & Kath Biddle with their menagerie of rubber ring animals. The final prize of the day was awarded to Gloria Crouch who received a wooden seagull named Geoff for what we shall call her ‘memory misdemeanours’!

All in all it was a great day which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks to the two Annies (Matthews & Cruse) for their time and effort in organising this fun day out.
