Ladies win the Gammon Trophy

Published: 16th September 2012

Today, Sunday 16th September, the Final of the Gammon Trophy was played between St Enodoc and Tehidy at Trevose GC.

Conditions were good at the start with the wind strengthening as time went on making play more challenging. The course lived up to it's reputation with thick rough and some difficult pin positions.

Sarah Sanderson went out first and played a fine match against Tehidy's top lady, Rachael Phillips but losing 6 & 4. Jean Tatum played Nikky Hodge and fought hard to win on 18. Sue Ofield had an excellent round to beat Hilary Wood 5 & 3. Sue G Jones fought back from 3 down against Chris Williams to go down 18 all square but unfortunately lost on the last. Bev Vann played very steadily to beat Gloria Sandon 3 & 2 while Sarah Sandercock beat Lyn Brooks 3 & 1 after playing two excellent shots to the difficult 17th, putting herself 4ft from the pin. Our rising young star, Lauren Williams went out last playing Tehidy's Amanda East, and had a resounding victory beating her 6 & 4.

The final score was 5/2 to St Enodoc and the Ladies Captain, Penny Moon, and the Team Captain, Meg Godfrey, were thrilled to take the Trophy back to St Enodoc for the first time in 6 years.
