The Ladies September Open was held on the 12th on a breezy but mainly dry day, which after rainfall of biblical proportions and strong winds in the preceding few days was seen as most fortunate for all involved. The Ladies were greeted at the clubhouse with coffee and cake, a little bit of fuel for the exertions to come!

24 teams of 3 from clubs in various counties including Wiltshire, Somerset, Surrey, and of course a few Cornish clubs participated in this very popular fixture which was played with a 2 tee start following the success of this format in June this year. The St Enodoc ‘chauffeurs’ were again on hand to ferry people to the 9th tee for their start time.

Whilst the weather had co-operated to a large extent, playing conditions were still challenging and many players found the superb greens a little tricky to get the hang of. The 15th was directly into a strong wind and evidently sufficiently challenging that no nearest the pin prize was awarded. This wasn’t as friendly as we like to be normally so we’ll have to check the wind direction next time!

Players were treated to another of Wappo’s excellent feasts on returning to the clubhouse and were happy to watch the rain start falling from the safety of the restaurant! Ladies’ Captain Tamsin Blake and her Vice-Captain Diana Mindel presented the prizes which had been beautifully displayed in an imaginative Autumn theme by Trudy Tremain, assisted by Penny Cartwright. Tamsin thanked all her committee members for their hard work in making the day run smoothly and successfully. Thanks were also due to Mary and Nan for running the raffle which raised a fantastic £290 for Active8. The Greens staff presented the course in fabulous condition and the bar and restaurant staff looked after everyone brilliantly as always!

The testing conditions kept the scores in the 70’s and there were only two 2’s, each winning 42 balls!
