Despite heavy rain in the morning on Tuesday 13th September, 29 teams of 3 ladies turned up to participate in the Ladies Open competition. This is always a popular fixture on the golfing calendar and, whilst the first teams out had to contend with heavy rain for the first few holes, the weather finally cleared to provide better conditions for the later tee times. One of the first teams out managed to post a good score despite the weather but then had a long wait to see if they could hold on to their lead. As it happened, a later team did come in with the same score but the early birds managed to hold out with a better back nine and a well deserved win!

The full results were as follows;

Winners from Perranporth – Hilary Pryor, Niki Wraight & Vicky Lee-Comyn 74 points (back nine 38)

Runners up from Burnham & Berrow – Jean Booth, Annette Poynton & Hazel Bevan 74 points (back nine 37)

3rd place from Launceston – Jan Harrison, Barbara Murton & Wendy Briggs 71 points (back nine 37)

4th place from Minchinhampton & St Enodoc – Claire Ryder, Elaine Smith & Lynn Ashcroft 71 points (bk 9 35)

5th place from Staddon Heights – Frances Ryan, Lis Collier & Kate Ball 70 points

Longest Drive Bronze – Elizabeth Matthews

Longest Drive Silver – Wendy Briggs

Nearest the pin Bronze – Shirley Still

Nearest the pin Silver – Elaine Smith

The ladies all enjoyed an excellent meal in the restaurant after their round. Ladies Captain Annie Cruse presented the prizes and welcomed all the ladies to St Enodoc and hoped that they had enjoyed the day despite the wet start. She also thanked those who had helped to make the day a success; Penny Cartwright & Trudy Tremain for the beautiful prize table, Sue Richards & Judy Redman for the raffle, Chris Henderson for very wet starter duties, Trudy Tremain for somewhat dryer starter duties & Tamsin Blake for handing out cards & prize giving.
