The June Ladies Open was held this year during the period of particularly hot weather being experienced by the whole country. Ladies from all over the county and beyond came to enjoy St Enodoc at its best and were greeted in the clubhouse with coffee and cake, fuel that would be much needed later.

This was the first time that a two tee start was used and a team of 3 ‘chauffeurs’ was on hand to transport the teams and their kit down to the ninth tee. The ‘F1’ team of Lewis (Sarah Sandercock), Sebastian (Trudy Tremain) & Alonso (Penny Cartwright) ran a very slick operation that was much appreciated by the Ladies in the heat of the day. Due to the dry conditions it was a little dusty en- route. Lewis quickly assessed the situation and made sure she was in pole position at each start so she could avoid a face full of dust from the other drivers!

The field was limited to 21 teams in order to ensure a smooth flow at the turn for both 1st and 9th tee starters and all went well. The heat threatened to overcome some players but Rangers Bob and Colin and committee member Sue Roworth were all on hand with plenty of water to keep hydration levels up.

After play there was the usual excellent lunch in the dining room followed by the prize giving by Ladies’ Captain Tamsin Blake and her Vice-Captain Diana Mindel. Tamsin thanked everyone for their participation and her committee members for their hard work before and on the day, baking cakes, meeting and greeting, catching lizards (don’t ask!) and of course the superb prize table put together by Penny Cartwright and Trudy Tremain.

To quote Lemony Snickett, ‘a series of unfortunate events’ resulted in the discovery after the prize giving that the team from West Cornwall of Rachel Perkin, Wendy Inch and Felicity Chiddick should have been in first place rather than 5th with 88 points. They graciously accepted our apology and a further 1st prize was delivered to them a couple of days later. In addition, Hilary Pryor of the winning Perranporth team donated £50 on behalf of her team to the Ladies’ Captain’s Charity, reflecting the difference in value between 2nd and 1st prize, thank you Hilary.
