Day two of the championships brings the match play. Another glorious day, even better than yesterday if that’s possible, with perfect playing conditions under a blue sky and of course with those amazing views here at Mullion.

In the plate Bev Vann met Anna Sendall of Perranporth in a well matched contest. Both players brought their A game to the table and the momentum swung back and forth throughout the match with some excellent match play witnessed. Unfortunately for Bev it was Anna who gained the advantage in the latter stages and the match finished on the 17th, 2&1. Well done Bev, a great performance!

In the championship group Penny Cartwright took on Wendy Briggs of Launceston. In a hard fought match Wendy eventually prevailed 3&2 and went through to the afternoon to play Olivia Trewhela of Truro when she lost 5&4. Penny progressed to the Advanced Plate where she met Angie Chapman of Perranporth. This match was a real tussle with both players digging deep in their 4th round over 2 days. It was close all the way through the front nine but Penny’s determination and skill started to show at the turn and she was 3 up at 14. She continued strongly and won the match 4&3 to go through to the semi-finals.

 The semi-finals take place today as follows;

Laura Andrew (Truro) v Olivia Trewhela (Truro)
Danielle Price (Perranporth) v Gemma Marsland (Newquay)

Advanced Plate

Jan Sargeant (Perranporth) v Penny Cartwright (St Enodoc)
Michelle Burgess (Newquay) v Liz Bird (Newquay)

Jane Barrington (Falmouth) v Nikki Hodge (Perranporth)
Katie Sandow (Tehidy Park) v Dawn Emmerson (Perranporth)

Good luck to all players, particularly Penny, we’re all behind you!
