The last day of the Championships and the weather was back to bright sunshine and a fairly brisk breeze. The championship final between Laura Andrew (Truro) and Danielle Price (Perranporth) was played over 36 holes and both girls played some superb golf, keeping the spectators entertained throughout. It was great to see these two up and coming players, Laura aged 17 and Danielle 16, demonstrating such skill and excellent sportsmanship. After the first 18 holes Laura came in for lunch 2 up so it was all still to play for in the afternoon. The momentum swung to and fro in the early stages after lunch, but Laura just managed to keep the edge and after the turn started to consolidate her lead, winning the championship on the 15th, 5&3. Huge congratulations to Laura and very well played to Danielle.

In the Advanced Plate, Jan Sargeant won her match against Michelle Burgess and in the Plate competition Katie Sandow got the better of Nikki Hodge. Congratulations to both players on their wins. For other results and awards please see the CLCGA website.

The Championship event as a whole has been a huge success and thanks must go to all the County ladies for the hard work that goes in to organising this event. Mullion Golf Club did a brilliant job of welcoming all the Ladies, the course was fabulous, the weather superb and the food and hospitality really excellent.

After the prize giving County Captain Sue Roworth announced the team that will compete at Wrag Barn in July. Cornwall has a good number of excellent young players coming through at present and it will be great to see how they and their more experienced team mates fare in the South West Counties Match week from 2nd to 7th July (supporters welcome!). The team is; Laura Andrew, Emily Toy, Danielle Price, Olivia Trewhela, Wendy Briggs, Gemma Marsland, Georgia Price, Jan Harrison, Megan Giles & Victoria Pawley.
