As the Seniors' year gradually draws to a close, the Holywell Knock-out Competition has yet again proved the old adage that a 'good old-un' will beat a good young-un'. There was a record entry that produced a high-quality field and a well-balanced final between Derek Kingsbury and Peter Mattinson. In the event Derek prevailed, to retain the trophy he won last year, and marched off with the Girling Sandry Salver, leaving Peter to reflect, no doubt, that his time will surely come.

The most recent match was at home against Lanhydrock. Although there was an unofficial 'Fish'- like forecast from H.M.S. Culdrose of a clear day, the participants were completely drenched, and the matches were consequently cut to 12 holes. St. Enodoc won on the day but, having lost at Lanhydrock in the away fixture, and in the light of the truncated play, the combined match was declared an honourable draw. However the general hubbub in the dining-room suggested that everyone had managed to enjoy the day in spite of the elements.

The October Stableford on the Church was won in fine style with 37 points by Richard Parsons who is in a rich vein of form and clearly revelling in his new, lower handicap. In second-place was Treasurer-elect, Mike Jarvis, on 34 points, and in third place, in a welcome return on 32 points, was Richard Wall. Overall scoring though was not particularly impressive, especially as it was dry and there was no wind at all.
