Juniors Bolitho Shield First Round Win

Published: 17th June 2012

The Junior Academy team faced a stiff test for their opening match of this year's Bolitho Shield. Drawn away at Carlyon Bay on Saturday 16th June they would not only face a strong side but would also have to cope with the strong wind and heavy showers. Sam Jarvis playing at no. 1 had an excellent match against S.Waddell with the home player winning on the 18th. Ever consistent Junior Captain Jake Sanders played at no. 2 and won his match 3&1 against J. Stone. Emily Toy surprisingly beat our own Joe Combellack, again on the 18th. Dan Pooley, playing some excellent golf in trying conditions, won his match 4&3 against Abby Maude. 'Promising' Nick Hirst, secured a much deserved 2 up win against Lee Gough.

The stage was therefore set for Rhiannon Rich to bring the team home. She trailed E. Knight by one hole coming down the 17th. Rhiannon won that hole so going to the 18th all square, but with a shot. With both players finding the green with their tee shots Rhiannon left her approach putt 4 to 5 ft beyond the hole but cooly 'drained' the putt for a three, so winning the hole. The final score-St.Enodoc 4 Carlyon Bay 2.
