After overnight and morning rainfall had dumped over 48mm of rain on the course it looked as if the 36 hole Goodman Trophy would be washed away for 2017. However heroic efforts by Course Manager Scott Gibson and his deputy Will Smith ably supported by Mike Buse, Andy Bunt and Bob Cruse for their repeated squeegeeing of the greens on no less than three occasions; without them the event would have undoubtedly been cancelled. Their efforts ensured that the flooded greens were cleared for afternoon play in a competition reduced to 18 holes. Some idea of what the greenkeepers had to cope with may be seen from the photographs and video footage on our Facebook page. However such is the resilience and drainage capabilities of our course that whilst the greens were obviously soft the course was perfectly playable.

Whilst the course was playing long the soft greens were much more receptive than normal and Joe Cruse took full advantage to score the lowest gross of the day, an impressive 3 under par 66. His round included five birdies and two bogeys and won him the Rachel Biddle Trophy. Josh Greenaway was 2nd of the best gross scores, with a 70. Whilst Mike Masters was 4th with a gross 75 and Steve Buse 5th also with a gross 75. Joe and Josh's efforts also earned them 3rd and 4th place in the Goodman for the best nett scores. All in all a good day for St Enodoc Members.

Overall winner of the Goodman Trophy was Martin Lafford from Redditch Golf Club with a net 67. Runner Up Mike West (The Bristol) net 68.
