Club Vice-Captain Tony Mindel (l) presents the winners trophy to Derek Kingsbury

The 6th and last round of the Holywell Seniors Eclectic Cup was played on 11th of April and the prizes presented on the 18th. One of the rules of this competition is that nobody can receive more than one prize which sometimes results in an apparently random distribution!

George Phillips was presented with Best Improver on the strength of his successive 2s on the 4th and 5th in one round. Most birdies went to David Barber who only played two rounds and managed 10th place. Third was David Balmford with a net 53.05 and Tyrell Sandry took second on 52.65 despite only competing four times. Best Gross went to Tom Lehan on 61 on a last 6 count back. Full scores are now on the notice board.

What can one say about the winner? For the third year in a row Derek Kingsbury took first prize with 44.75 – a very good score indeed. Please see para one above to understand that Derek could have taken Winner, Best Gross and Most Birdies had dear Eric Booth had not shown great foresight in setting his ruling. Congratulations, Derek, from all the Seniors; I'm sure you will put up a great defence again next year.

The prizes were presented by our club Vice-captain, Tony Mindel, who told me it was his first club duty. I didn't quite understand his personal presentation of two cakes, presumably made specially by Di, to undisclosed recipients. Somebody will no doubt fill me in. A delightful fun filled event was rounded off by a very polished speech in thanks by Mr Kingsbury.

HOLYWELL SENIORS STABLEFORD

Prior to the Eclectic Presentation there was a stableford competition won by David Barber (a name I suspect we may be seeing more of) on 34 points. Second was Nigel Gallagher with 32 and third David Girling on 31. It was not a very nice day with high swirling winds accounting for the unusually low points tally. Again the full result will be on the board.
